PH needs 10 to 12 mega food hubs to boost food distribution – DA

MANILA, Philippines — The country needs at least 10 to 12 mega food hubs to help farmers and fisherfolk distribute their goods more efficiently, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said on Tuesday. Tiu Laurel made the remark during the House committee on appropriations’ briefing on the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) 2027 budget proposal. He indicated that the agency is working on plans for these hubs, though specific details were not immediately available. The Philippines faces challenges in post-harvest distribution, particularly in rural farming and fishing communities, due to underdeveloped logistics and insufficient transportation infrastructure. These issues contribute to high prices and food waste. The proposed mega food hubs aim to address these challenges by improving the supply chain from producers to consumers.
