Cambodia's Ministry of Defense Emphasizes Financial Personnel Expertise

Cambodia's Ministry of Defense has stressed the importance for financial officers within the military to possess clear knowledge and expertise to ensure accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in their financial operations, which are crucial for disbursing salaries and other expenses. This was highlighted by Major General Meng Polok, Director General of the General Department of Logistics and Finance, during the closing ceremony of the 6th intermediate financial professional training course for the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, held at the Ministry of Defense on the morning of September 11, 2026. Major General Meng Polok stated that in the context of a complex security environment and evolving military technology, financial resources are a key factor in ensuring the supply and sustenance of the armed forces, particularly in the timely provision of salaries, allowances, food, materiel, and logistics to all military personnel. He added that robust financial management, targeted budget allocation, and transparency in fund utilization contribute to strengthening national defense capabilities. Furthermore, he urged all trainees to continuously enhance their professional knowledge and skills, to clearly understand the defense budget system, and to adhere to the guiding principles of the Royal Government, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He also emphasized the need to collect sufficient and accurate data before preparing project plans and budget requests to ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability in financial management. According to a report by Major General Kim Sonara, Director of the Department of Finance, the department is currently implementing reforms in public financial management and digital transformation, with a goal to complete the opening of bank accounts and salary payments through the banking system for all military personnel by the end of June 2027. The 6th intermediate financial professional training course, which concluded, lasted for three months and included 76 participants (62 men and 14 women) from various units across the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
