Son La Province Recovers 5 Sets of Martyrs' Remains in "500-Day Operation"

Son La Province in northern Vietnam has recovered and identified five sets of martyrs' remains as part of the "500-Day Operation" aimed at searching for, collecting, and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers. The operation is being led by the provincial Military Command, implementing synchronized solutions and mobilizing the participation of all levels of agencies, sectors, and localities, in line with the spirit of gratitude and remembrance towards fallen heroes. This endeavor is recognized as a sacred act to express gratitude to the fallen and to bring hope to their families. Son La Province is accelerating the identification of remains using DNA technology and is working to ensure the "500-Day Operation" proceeds without delay. Previous reports indicated that 1,384 sets of remains had been collected within the first four months of the operation, suggesting the current identification of five sets is part of ongoing efforts. Under Vietnam's one-party system, remembrance of war casualties is a national priority, and such remains collection activities contribute to national unity and the cultivation of patriotism. Despite ongoing economic growth, the memories of past wars remain deeply embedded in Vietnamese society, and the state places importance on these "remembrance" activities to maintain national cohesion. Furthermore, in the context of relations with China, where historical issues can sometimes affect bilateral ties, strengthening domestic unity may hold strategic significance for Vietnam.
