Cambodia and Vietnam Hold Investment Talks to Boost Agriculture and Processing Industries
On September 14, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) met with the Vietnamese Ambassador and businesses operating in Cambodia. The discussion focused on encouraging investment in the processing sector of agriculture and agro-industry, and strengthening cooperation to achieve bilateral trade targets.
On September 14, 2026, Mr. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and his colleagues, met with Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia for a working discussion. The meeting was facilitated by Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, and included Oknha Leng Rithy, President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association, and Dr. Oknha Tan Monivann, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. During the meeting, Mr. Chea Vuthy emphasized the government's commitment to promoting the private sector, highlighting the government's focus on understanding the challenges and requests of the private sector to jointly find appropriate solutions aimed at increasing work efficiency and enhancing investor confidence. Through the investment environment and various support policies implemented by the government, the Secretary General of the CDC informed the delegation that Cambodia has immense potential in the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors. He encouraged Vietnamese investors to consider investing in processing these resources into finished products, rather than exporting them as raw materials. Examples included the processing of cashew nuts, cassava, rice, rubber, and planted wood. Concurrently, Mr. Chea Vuthy recalled the commitment of the top leaders of both countries to boost trade activities between Cambodia and Vietnam, particularly to increase bilateral trade volume to US$20 billion. On behalf of the Vietnamese government, Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu expressed his gratitude to the CDC and the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association for co-organizing this important discussion. He highly praised the CDC for its consistent and effective efforts in facilitating and resolving the challenges faced by Vietnamese investors. In addition to listening to the challenges and requests of the Vietnamese private sector, the Vietnamese Ambassador highly valued the discussion, stating it provided an opportunity for Vietnamese investors to further understand Cambodia's investment environment and potential. Representatives of the Vietnamese private sector informed about investment projects such as establishing a factory to process rubber wood into furniture, producing organic fertilizer, and investing in coffee cultivation and processing factories within Cambodia. Mr. Chea Vuthy briefed the delegation on the government's efforts to fully strengthen the CDC's One-Stop Service mechanism to provide services that are easier, faster, and more efficient. He also requested investors to pay attention to three important matters: environmental protection, social responsibility, and good governance by respecting laws and paying taxes to the state. This, he explained, enables the state to build infrastructure and train human resources to provide services back to investors. Source: CPP Cambodia
