Vietnam and Japan Expand Semiconductor Cooperation, Promoting New Research and Talent Development

Vietnam and Japan are set to further strengthen their cooperation in the semiconductor sector. Following the success of the first symposium held in Osaka, the 2nd Vietnam-Japan Semiconductor Symposium (VJSS-2026) is scheduled to take place in 2026. This symposium is expected to serve as a platform to foster collaboration in research, education, and industry engagement within the semiconductor field. Through this partnership, Vietnam has the opportunity to establish itself as the semiconductor hub of Southeast Asia, aiming to become the region's 'Silicon Valley'. Both nations will launch five key cooperative research projects in the semiconductor domain, marking a significant step towards enhancing Vietnam's industrial capabilities and global competitiveness. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth and is accelerating investments in advanced technology sectors. Amidst global supply chain diversification efforts, particularly driven by escalating US-China tensions, Vietnam is focusing on attracting semiconductor manufacturing and related industries. Collaboration with Japan offers substantial benefits for Vietnam in terms of technology transfer and advanced talent development, potentially leading to further economic growth and increasing Vietnam's strategic importance in the region.
