100kg Pork Waste Found in Buriram Forest, Raising Health Concerns

BURIRAM — Villagers in Buriram province have expressed strong concerns over potential disease contamination after the discovery of an estimated 100 kilograms of pork bones and fresh meat scattered across a community forest in Nang Rong district. The waste was found on September 20th in a forest adjacent to Route 348, a key road connecting Nang Rong and Pakham districts, in Nong Sai subdistrict. Alerted by residents, officers from the Buriram Highway Police Rescue Unit, in coordination with community leaders, inspected the site. They found numerous bags containing slaughtered pork bones and fresh meat that had begun to emit an odor of decay. Officials suspect that traders or vendors may have illegally dumped the waste, though the exact motive remains unclear. Possibilities include unsold, spoiled pork or meat contaminated with a disease, leading to its illicit disposal. Some of the dumped material was found scattered, possibly after wild dogs dragged the bags to consume the contents. Initial estimates put the total amount of pork bones and meat dumped at no less than 100 kilograms. Samran Samruangwong, a volunteer with the Buriram Highway Police Rescue Unit, stated that villagers collecting wild products in the forest first discovered the suspicious bags and alerted the authorities. Rescuers and community leaders confirmed the presence of discarded pork at multiple locations, but the source and the perpetrator are yet to be identified. Authorities have contacted livestock officials to collect samples for testing for any pathogens and to investigate the origin of the pork. The remaining pork waste will be buried to mitigate the potential spread of diseases, officials confirmed.
