Sleeper Bus Overturns on Vietnam National Highway, 8 Injured

On the afternoon of September 10, a sleeper bus traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi overturned on National Highway 1 near Long Thanh village, Hong Son commune, Lam Dong province, after colliding with a median strip. The accident resulted in injuries to eight people. The incident occurred around 5:50 PM. The driver, Nguyen Ha Phu, 33, was operating a 24-berth sleeper bus with a Da Nang license plate, heading north on National Highway 1. While passing through the Long Thanh village area, the bus struck a solid median barrier and overturned to the left. The bus was carrying 17 individuals, including 13 passengers, two drivers, and two attendants. Eight people sustained minor injuries: six passengers and two attendants. They were taken to Binh Thuan General Hospital for initial treatment. The remaining seven passengers and two drivers were at the scene. Local resident Nguyen Xuan Quy reported that after the bus overturned, passersby and locals broke windows to help extract those trapped inside. Two ambulances later arrived to transport the injured to the hospital. According to authorities, the preliminary cause of the accident is attributed to slippery road conditions due to rain and the driver's failure to control the speed on a curved section of the road. Hong Son commune police assisted in the medical evacuation, securing the scene, and managing traffic.
