Vietnam, France Deepen Space Cooperation

Vietnam and France are set to strengthen cooperation in space development, ushering in a new stage of bilateral relations. This enhanced cooperation is built on trust nurtured over generations and the strong political determination of the leaders of both countries. On September 4, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam met with outgoing French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet in Hanoi. President To Lam highly commended Ambassador Brochet's contributions to strengthening bilateral relations during his three-year tenure. This strengthening of space cooperation reflects Vietnam's growing interest in scientific and technological development, particularly in space exploration. Vietnam aims to advance the peaceful use and application of space technology through collaboration with the international community. France, a leading space power in Europe, has consistently demonstrated a proactive stance on international cooperation. The two countries may deepen their collaboration in areas such as satellite technology, Earth observation, and space science research. Under Vietnam's one-party system, state-led scientific and technological development is prioritized, with space development positioned as a strategic component. International cooperation holds significant importance for Vietnam, both for enhancing domestic technological capabilities and expanding its international influence. Especially amidst complex relations with China, strengthening ties with European nations can be seen as part of Vietnam's strategy for diplomatic diversification. Additionally, according to the report, Vietnam is also advancing cooperation with South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Myanmar across various fields including politics, economy, and diplomacy. This indicates Vietnam's pursuit of a more diversified and strategic foreign policy on the international stage.
