Vietnam Prioritises Post-War Recovery Cooperation with US: Defence Chief

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence has stated that defence cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. has developed positively and been implemented effectively across a range of areas, including post-war recovery. This development is part of the broader effort to seek closer cooperation in defence and security industries between the two nations, aiming to substantially promote their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. According to Vinh, the collaboration extends beyond post-war recovery to include dialogue and consultations, training, participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, cooperation between military services and branches, military medicine, the defence industry, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The strengthening of defence ties with the U.S. is viewed within the context of Vietnam's foreign policy, which seeks to balance national security with economic development under its one-party system. This diversification of foreign relations and enhancement of security are particularly relevant amidst ongoing regional strategic competition. Cooperation in the field of post-war recovery holds particular significance, aiming to heal the wounds of past conflicts and build greater trust between the peoples of Vietnam and the U.S.
