Cambodia Vows No Retreat in Online Scam Crackdown; Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Praises Achievements

Interior Minister Sar Sokha has reaffirmed the Cambodian government's firm and unwavering commitment to continuing its iron-fisted approach to eradicating remaining online scam operations within the country. This was stated during a meeting with Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arief Havas Oegroseno on the afternoon of September 23, 2026, at the Ministry of Interior in Phnom Penh. During the meeting, Minister Sar Sokha also informed the Indonesian delegation about the government's decision not to permit any form of internet gambling operations linked to casinos nationwide. He stated that this measure is another new strategy to cut off the roots of online scams, and from October onwards, Cambodian authorities will conduct inspections and take legal action without exception if any casino is found to be in violation of this decision. Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arief Havas Oegroseno congratulated the Cambodian government and people on the remarkable achievements in the operation to clean up online scams. The Deputy Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude for Cambodia's commitment, openness to cooperation, and ongoing achievements, particularly in rescuing Indonesian citizens involved in these crimes. Through the meeting, both sides discussed and agreed to strengthen existing mechanisms and implement additional new strategies to ensure the resolution of common issues. These include addressing Indonesian citizens found at crime sites and providing training and knowledge sharing in the technology sector to aid in investigations and the suppression of criminal activities.
