Maramag, Bukidnon Celebrates 70th Founding Anniversary with Cultural Showcase

MARAMAG, Bukidnon — The rhythmic sound of indigenous gongs echoed across the streets as hundreds of Manobo-Talaandig dancers became the showcase of this town’s 70th founding anniversary celebration on Wednesday, filling the town with color, culture, and pride despite the gloomy weather.Dressed in vibrant red traditional attire, about 300 Indigenous Peoples performers captivated residents and visitors with lively street dances that featured the municipality’s rich heritage.The cultural presentation reflected this year’s theme, “Maramag @70: Rooted in Heritage, Driven by Excellence, Ready for Cityhood.” READ: July 1 is a holiday in some areas in Visayas, Mindanao: Is your area covered? Beyond the festive atmosphere, the celebration carried a message of responsible governance.Mayor Jose Joel Doromal, a lawyer, said the municipality chose a simpler yet meaningful program that honors Maramag’s history and achievements while observing national cost-saving measures.According to the municipal government, the leaner schedule is in line with National Budget Circular No. 602 and the national government’s declared State of National Energy Emergency, which require government agencies and local government units to reduce spending on non-priority activities. Despite fewer events, Doromal said the celebration remains focused on commemorating Maramag’s seven decades of progress, recognizing the resilience of its people, and preserving the traditions that continue to define the municipality as it moves toward its goal of becoming a city./coa
