Two Suspects Arrested for Illegal Cough Syrup Smuggling Near Cambodia-Thailand Border
Two individuals have been arrested in Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province for their alleged involvement in smuggling illegal cough syrup near the Thai border. Approximately 1,150 bottles of the medication were seized. Authorities are proceeding with legal procedures.
In the Malay district of Banteay Meanchey province, northwestern Cambodia, two men have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling illegal cough syrup near the border with Thailand. According to local reports, the arrested individuals are Noy Vy, 36, and Phon Lyin, 26. They were apprehended around 4:30 PM on September 8, 2026, at a location near the border in Ou Srolao village, Malay district. The operation was led by Major Keo Sokchan, commander of the 1st Company, 511th Battalion, of the 51st Infantry Division, which is stationed along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The suspects were caught attempting to smuggle six cases of DATISSIN brand cough syrup, each containing 60 milliliters, totaling 1,150 bottles. They were subsequently handed over to Colonel Tang Sokheng, commander of the Malay District Gendarmerie, and transferred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court for legal proceedings. This incident highlights the authorities' ongoing efforts to combat the illicit trade of drugs and unauthorized pharmaceuticals within Cambodia.
