Cambodian Villagers Urge Authorities to Expedite Road Repair

Residents in Chroy Snaeng Khobey village, Prek Prasap district, Kratie province, have collectively pooled funds to carry out emergency repairs on a village road stretching over 1 kilometer. This road connects Kompong Kor village and Prek Prasap village, serving as a vital link for residents' travel and the transport of agricultural products and goods. The villagers are urging the authorities to expedite comprehensive repairs to this road, which suffers from seasonal flooding and significant potholes. Despite their financial hardships, the residents have collaborated to donate funds and fill approximately 400 to 600 meters of the road with earth. They emphasize the critical importance of this road for both Kompong Kor and Prek Prasap villages, facilitating travel to remote areas and the movement of agricultural produce and other commodities. Mai Kimlean, the village chief of Kompong Kor, stated that the road, over 1000 meters in length, is under the purview of the Kompong Kor village fund. While both villages initially cooperated on its maintenance, the road has deteriorated over the years. The village authorities conduct annual upkeep, but this year's budget only allowed for the repair of 100 meters. Efforts were focused on raising the level of a low-lying section near the Ou Thom dam to prevent flooding during the rainy season. He confirmed plans to upgrade a 560-meter stretch of this road to concrete by the end of 2026, following the existing asphalted section. This road remains an extremely important daily infrastructure for the residents of both Prek Prasap and Kompong Kor villages, essential for their commutes, transport of agricultural produce, and trade.
