Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province Boosts Organic Rice Production, Targeting $12 Million in Economic Impact

Preah Vihear province in northern Cambodia is actively promoting organic rice production to strengthen its position as the "organic agriculture province" of the country. Amru Rice Cambodia has committed to significantly increasing its procurement of organic rice to 40,000 tons, a move expected to generate an economic impact of approximately $12 million. Concurrently, CACC company will purchase 15,000 tons of organic cassava from agricultural communities in the province. During the signing ceremony for organic rice and cassava production and supply contracts held on August 7, 2026, in Preah Vihear province, Mr. Song Saran, CEO of Amru Rice Cambodia, stated that the agreement represents more than just a buyer-seller relationship; it is a contract built on trust and responsibility for mutual growth. He emphasized that the company will work with dedication to secure markets for farmers, offer transparent pricing, strengthen traceability, and promote climate-resilient rice cultivation, asserting that the success of farmers is the company's success. His Excellency Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear province, expressed immense pride in Cambodia's advancement in the international market through organic rice production in Preah Vihear, noting its significant volume. He highlighted that agriculture accounts for 50% of the province's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is approximately $400 million. He further stated that in 2025, organic rice production reached over 20,000 tons, valued at around $6 million. However, for 2026, the commitment from Amru Rice Cambodia to purchase 40,000 tons will inject approximately $12 million directly into the household economies of farmers. His Excellency Governor Rithy expressed his aspiration for continued growth in organic rice production, aiming to transform Preah Vihear into a completely "organic province" in the future. His Excellency Dr. Meas Pyseth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Hun Manet, Cambodia produces 14 million tons of rice annually, far exceeding the domestic demand of 5 million tons. He stated that the future direction is to focus on food health and the preservation of land and water resources for future generations. Dr. Pyseth added that the government is addressing challenges in the agricultural sector through priority policies, including price stabilization, the deployment of 1,600 agricultural officials nationwide, and the establishment of modern agricultural communities.
