Phuket Launches Household Debt Relief Fair, Aims to Assist Over 20,000 Debtors

A large-scale fair aimed at resolving household debt issues has commenced in Phuket Province, Southern Thailand. More than 15 financial institutions are participating in this fair, with the goal of assisting over 20,000 debtors. This initiative is positioned as part of comprehensive measures by the government and the financial sector to address the household debt problem, which has been worsening annually within Thailand. Phuket Province, while an economically developed region centered on tourism, is believed to be experiencing increased household burdens due to recent economic fluctuations and inflation. Under these circumstances, the fair provides an opportunity for debtors to directly engage with financial institutions and receive support such as debt restructuring and repayment plan reviews. Participating financial institutions are expected to propose solutions tailored to individual circumstances for people burdened by various types of debt, including personal loans, housing loans, and car loans. This household debt issue has the potential to affect the overall stability of the Thai economy, and the government plans to continue implementing ongoing measures.
