Two DEMU train collisions occurred due to illegal railway crossings

Two collisions occurred between DEMU trains and vehicles crossing illegally at railway crossings on the Yangon-Naypyidaw-Mandalay railway line on September 13 and 14, resulting in fatalities, according to Myanmar Railways. On September 13, the No. 5 up Yangon-Mandalay DEMU train, which departed from Yangon Central Station, collided with a three-wheeled motorcycle crossing an illegal railway crossing, killing one monk and one novice who were riding the motorcycle. Similarly, on September 14, the No. 8 down DEMU train collided with a tractor crossing an illegal railway crossing between Pyuntansa and Daitoo stations, splitting the tractor in two and killing the two people on board, it was reported. Despite Myanmar Railways conducting awareness campaigns due to frequent fatal accidents caused by sudden crossings at illegal railway crossings, compliance remains low.
