Cambodia Sees Over 800 New Factories, Creates More Than 90,000 Jobs in First Half of Year

In the first six months of 2026, Cambodia saw an increase of 845 factories, creating over 90,000 new job opportunities for its citizens. This reflects a robust investment climate and Cambodia's continuous appeal as an investment destination. Sun Messa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, stated on August 5th that during the first half of the year, the number of factories grew from 46,649 to 47,494, a significant increase that has generated over 90,000 job opportunities. A large portion of these new jobs are in the industrial sector, particularly in garment, footwear, and travel goods/bag manufacturing, where factory numbers rose from 2,725 to 2,890. Mr. Messa highlighted that this positive growth reflects the unwavering confidence of both domestic and international investors in Cambodia and demonstrates the effectiveness of the government's policies in promoting investment, even as the global economy continues to face uncertainty. "Despite the ongoing uncertainties in the global economy, Cambodia continues to attract investment, increase its factory numbers, and create new jobs. This growth reflects investor confidence in Cambodia's peace, political stability, supportive investment policies, and skilled workforce," the spokesperson said. He further added that the over 90,000 new jobs created in the first half of 2026 are evidence that Cambodia is continuing to generate employment opportunities for its people and strengthen the foundation for sustainable economic growth. Concurrently, the Ministry of Labour spokesperson urged citizens and former migrant workers to seek employment opportunities within the country. They are encouraged to utilize job platforms or contact the hotline 1297 to find jobs offering decent income, safety, labor rights protection, and social benefits in accordance with the law, emphasizing this as a more prudent choice than risky overseas migration that can lead to wasted time and resources.
