Cambodia to Host International Conference on Combating Online Scams

Cambodia is set to host an "International Conference on Combating Online Scams" in Phnom Penh from September 23-24, aiming to strengthen its fight against technological fraud. Minister of Information, Neak Prekthra, stated that the conference reflects the Cambodian government's efforts and demonstrates its responsibility in combating online scams. The minister emphasized that the international conference will showcase Cambodia as a victim nation of online scams to the global community and serve as an opportunity to share its experiences. He affirmed that Cambodia has nothing to hide regarding online scam issues and gains no benefit from such criminal activities. "This event is to show the world that Cambodia is a victim of online scams, so Cambodia needs to restore its reputation by the government's efforts to crack down on online scam criminal groups," Minister Prekthra stated. He also expressed Cambodia's pleasure in hosting the conference, acknowledging that online scams are a regional and global issue. Cambodia recognizes online scams as a serious problem and is a victim of this transnational crime, currently taking measures to address it. From July 2025 to August 2026, Cambodian authorities investigated over 830 suspicious locations and conducted raids on 663 sites. This included the dismantling of 86 large-scale online scam operations and the deportation of over 20,000 foreign suspects.
