Kachin's Hti Kha Stream Nears Disappearance Due to Gold Mining, Locals Allege Junta Collusion

Hti Kha Stream in Machanbaw Township, Kachin State, is severely polluted and nearing disappearance due to extensive gold mining. Since the 2021 coup, large-scale operations using heavy machinery have proliferated, destroying local livelihoods. Villagers allege that the mining, occurring in junta-controlled areas, is permitted by the military regime and village administrators.
