Heavy Rains Continue in Northern and Central Vietnam, Flood Warnings Persist

The Vietnam Meteorological Department forecasts that heavy rains will continue in the northern and north-central regions on September 18. In these areas, caution against localized flooding remains a priority. Even in the northern regions, where rainfall tends to decrease from morning to afternoon, the risk of sudden water level rises and inundation is highlighted. Meanwhile, scattered thunderstorms are expected in the southern coastal, Central Highlands, and southern regions. Over the past few days, Vietnam has been hit by unusual heavy rains and floods. On September 17, moderate to heavy rainfall was observed in the northern and central regions. Similarly, heavy rains persisted in the northern and north-central areas on September 16. These adverse weather conditions have already resulted in multiple fatalities and inundated over 16,000 homes. In the capital, Hanoi, although the rain has stopped in some areas, flooding is still occurring at 10 locations. Vietnam is facing increasing risks of natural disasters due to extreme weather events, influenced by recent climate change. The government is strengthening its preparedness measures for floods and heavy rains to cope with these situations.
