NBC Highlights Achievements of Financial Services Consumer Protection Center

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has announced the achievements of its Financial Services Consumer Protection Center. The center aims to enhance public trust by maintaining a balance between financial service providers and consumers, and by strengthening the effective and timely provision of financial services. According to the center's activity report for the first half of 2026, a total of 840 complaints and inquiries were received through its hotline. Of these, 826 cases have been resolved, while 14 are currently under processing. The resolved cases include 18 that are still in judicial proceedings. The complaints and inquiries covered a wide range of issues, including requests for early lump-sum loan repayments, demands for payment term leniency for military personnel and refugees, problems with ATM cash withdrawals, withdrawal of deposits from financial institutions that have been liquidated or had their licenses revoked, requests for credit restructuring, transparency in credit service provision by financial institutions, financial fraud, illegal lending, and requests for the management of deceased persons' accounts. Furthermore, the NBC is collaborating with relevant ministries and institutions to prevent and deter illegal financial activities, such as electronic currency trading like USDT (Tether) and illegal lending. As a result, four business locations in Phnom Penh involved in USDT trading have been shut down, and related evidence has been seized.
