PM Hun Manet Urges Stakeholders to Boost Literacy for Educational Advancement

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has called on all relevant parties to continue participating in and promoting literacy work to enhance the nation's educational quality. This appeal was conveyed through a message on the occasion of the 8th National Literacy Day on September 8th, under the theme "Literacy for Enhancing Inclusive Education Quality." This theme aims to foster a broader understanding among citizens nationwide about the importance of literacy programs, which serve as the foundation for developing basic knowledge and vocational skills. The Prime Minister emphasized that the observance of this meaningful day demonstrates the Cambodian government's goodwill and firm commitment, driven by a high sense of responsibility for the nation's destiny. This commitment is maintained despite Cambodia facing numerous challenges, including geopolitical complexities, global economic uncertainties, climate change, and the rapid evolution of digital technology, all of which impact social and economic development. In the context of the 21st century, literacy is not confined to the ability to read, write, and calculate. It now encompasses information literacy, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, digital literacy, and the qualities of a global and digital citizen, essential for navigating a world characterized by advanced technology and science. This theme aligns with the International Literacy Day, focusing on building human capital with knowledge, skills, ethics, responsibility, and the capacity to live and contribute to societal development in a rapidly changing world. This is consistent with the nation's development goals and the government's commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly Goal 4: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." Prime Minister Hun Manet highly commended the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport for effectively implementing in-depth reform programs in the education sector, promoting inclusive education policies, and nurturing good citizenship and patriotism. In response to the call for literacy, the Prime Minister urged all ministries, relevant institutions, and authorities to continue paying attention to and promoting literacy work, aiming to improve citizens' reading and writing skills, especially in areas where literacy support is still needed.
