Cambodia is actively promoting its rainy season as a year-round tourism opportunity, rebranding it as the 'Green Season' to highlight the appeal of lush landscapes and ecotourism, particularly in the country's northeast. Tourism Minister Huot Hak stated at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Green Season Tourism Event in Stung Treng that the monsoon months should be viewed not as a barrier but as a chance to enjoy greener scenery, fresh air, and nature-based attractions. "This campaign is more than a change in terminology — it is a change in mindset," Hak said, describing the initiative as part of a forward-looking national strategy to boost year-round travel. The drive aims to spur domestic tourism, promote Cambodia as a safe and welcoming destination, and encourage the conservation of cultural heritage and natural resources. Stung Treng, with its rivers, forests, and local communities, was selected to showcase the northeast's ecotourism potential. The event attracted approximately 1,000 participants, including officials, operators, private-sector representatives, youth, and students. The Green Season campaign commenced in Phnom Penh, moved to Siem Reap with a focus on heritage tourism, and reached Stung Treng this week. It is scheduled to continue to coastal provinces before concluding back in the capital.
