Floodwaters have significantly receded in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province following heavy rainfall, allowing residents to travel again. Evacuations of stranded tourists have concluded, and infrastructure recovery is underway.
The Ministry of Environment in Cambodia has reported on the recovery progress following heavy rainfall in the mountainous areas of Kampong Speu province. As of noon on July 14, water levels in the Phnom Thbeng area have significantly receded, allowing for the resumption of resident travel. This has enabled one stranded vehicle to move to Tang Bampong village, and residents can now travel by motorcycle in certain areas. A total of 551 tourists who were stranded have been evacuated to safe locations and have since returned to their hometowns. Currently, three vehicles remain at the Damrei resting point at the foot of Phnom Khnang Chas. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, has urged park rangers and relevant officials to continue patrolling, facilitating, and closely monitoring the rainfall situation in the Phnom Khnang Chas tourist area to ensure the complete safety of residents and tourists. The region had experienced flash floods that damaged roads and caused isolation in some areas. Park authorities, in collaboration with local administration and community committees, have been working on swift response measures. With the receding water levels, efforts are underway to ensure the safe movement of tourists and the restoration of daily life for local residents.
