3 Civilians Allegedly Killed by OPM in Papua

Three civilians have reportedly died in the Seradala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia, on Wednesday (22/7). Local authorities are investigating the incident, with strong suspicions of involvement by the separatist group 'Free Papua Movement' (OPM). According to Colonel Inf. Tri Purwanto, Head of Information for Military Regional Command (Kapendam) XVII/Cenderawasih, two of the victims, identified as Kumis Kogoya and Seli Wenda, were found and evacuated on Thursday (23/7). Both are indigenous Papuan (OAP) and are believed to have been a married couple. Efforts are currently underway to search for the remaining victim, fully clarify the chronology of events, and pursue the perpetrators. Colonel Tri strongly condemned the OPM's atrocities against unarmed civilians, stating, "Civilians should be protected and should not be targets of violence under any circumstances." He also expressed deep condolences to the victims' families and requested the public's prayers and support for the smooth evacuation process, ensuring the bodies are handed over to their families for proper burial. Colonel Tri urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and promptly report any activities that could threaten security in their surroundings to the authorities.
