Indonesia Asserts Security Stability, Top Minister Highlights Normalization of Public Life

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has asserted that security conditions across Indonesia remain safe and under control. He stated that the government is continuously monitoring the situation in coordination with the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). "The domestic situation is very stable, and the developments in the domestic situation are still under our collective control," said Djamari during a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026). He emphasized that the secure conditions are not only evident in Jakarta but also in several major cities and regions. "As I reiterated earlier, the security conditions throughout Indonesia are safe. This applies to Jakarta, to major cities, and to the regions we frequently visit, all of which are in a safe and calm state," explained Djamari. He also noted that the high mobility of the public is one indicator that daily life is proceeding normally. According to Djamari, the public continues to engage in various activities, including traveling for necessities and seeking entertainment. He recounted his personal experience of visiting a market with his wife on a Sunday, observing that the market was safe and public activities were ongoing. Djamari also mentioned the bustling atmosphere in shopping centers, stating he even had difficulty finding parking at a mall due to the high number of vehicles. "Going to the mall is also perfectly safe; in fact, it remains crowded. It was very difficult to find a parking spot at the mall," he claimed. According to Djamari, these conditions demonstrate that public mobility is ongoing. He added that the public also maintains activities for recreation and enjoying the outside atmosphere. "This means our public mobility is still functioning. The desire of our people to entertain themselves and observe the situation is also something that makes us all proud," he explained. Djamari reiterated that the government will continue to monitor the security situation with relevant apparatus and maintain coordination to prevent undesirable conditions from emerging.
