Cambodian and US Armies to Resume "Angkor Guardian" Joint Exercise After Decade-Long Hiatus
Cambodian and US military forces concluded initial planning for the "Angkor Guardian" joint exercise, set to resume in February 2027 after a decade. The exercise aims to strengthen cooperation in areas like medical aid, engineering, and explosive ordnance disposal.
The ground forces of the Royal Cambodian Army, along with the National Center for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine Action, and War Remnants, and the US Army Pacific and Idaho National Guard, organized an Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the "Angkor Guardian" exercise in 2027. This conference, held from August 31 to September 4, 2026, marks a significant step towards resuming this bilateral exercise after a decade-long hiatus. Both sides discussed key training activities, including command post exercises and professional skill exchanges in healthcare, engineering, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD/UXO). The "Angkor Guardian" exercise is scheduled to take place in February 2027. It aims to enhance interoperability and disaster response capabilities, reflecting a renewed momentum in military cooperation between Cambodia and the United States, and a shared commitment to strengthening national defense collaboration.
