The initiative aims to overcome SME challenges and boost domestic production, crucial for economic growth and job creation. The Economic Policy Committee will lead the development of new measures.

AKP Phnom Penh, July 19, 2026 — Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has invited the public, particularly small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) operators, to share their views and recommendations to help the Royal Government formulate more effective policies to strengthen the sector. “I welcome the views and suggestions of our people in the spirit of thinking and working together for the common interests of our nation,” the Premier said in a message released today. Samdech Thipadei described SMEs as a key driver of Cambodia’s economic growth and job creation, noting that successive Royal Governments have introduced policies and measures to promote the development of the sector. He added that the Royal Government of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly has continued to implement additional initiatives to encourage the establishment and operation of SMEs. While acknowledging the progress achieved, the Prime Minister said Cambodia still faces a number of challenges that need to be addressed to further strengthen the SME sector. He stressed that SMEs have become even more important as Cambodia seeks to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on imports. To support this objective, Samdech Thipadei said he has tasked H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, with leading the development of additional urgent and necessary measures to address existing challenges and further support SMEs. The Prime Minister noted that the Royal Government has consistently conducted in-depth studies and consultations with SME representatives, the private sector, and relevant ministries and institutions before introducing new policies and measures. He therefore encouraged the public, especially SME owners and operators, to provide feedback on the challenges facing the sector and to propose practical solutions. According to Samdech Thipadei, such input will serve as an important additional basis for the Royal Government to formulate more targeted and effective measures to address the needs of Cambodia’s SMEs.
