Cambodian Law Students Rank Top 16 Globally in International Moot Court

A team of Cambodian law students has achieved a remarkable feat, ranking among the top 16 teams globally and securing fifth place for their written submissions at the 18th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition. The competition was held in Geneva, Switzerland. Announced on its Facebook page on July 21, 2026, the team represented Cambodia from the English Language Bachelor of Laws (ELBBL) program at the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE). The competition took place from July 13 to 17, 2026. This moot court competition is a significant international platform that provides an opportunity for law students from universities worldwide with profound knowledge of international law, particularly human rights law and international humanitarian law, to showcase their expertise. They demonstrate their capabilities through argumentation and cross-examination before a panel composed of international legal experts and judges from regional human rights courts, such as those in Europe, the Americas, and Africa. In 2026, 122 law schools from around the world participated in the competition. After intense preliminary rounds held online in May 2026, which involved the evaluation of written submissions and oral arguments, the Cambodian representative team from RULE demonstrated outstanding capabilities in legal research and argumentation. They successfully qualified among the 'Top 24 Qualifying Teams' globally, earning the opportunity to present their arguments in person at the United Nations. In the subsequent rounds in Geneva, the student team advanced to the top 16, and their written submissions were awarded fifth place. This extraordinary success is a great source of pride for Cambodia and the university itself, standing on the international stage and showcasing the university's high commitment, tireless efforts, and excellence in legal education and training.
