Man Arrested for Stabbing Ex-Wife Over Unrequited Reconciliation Attempt in Battambang

In Santepheap Commune, Sampov Loun District, Battambang Province, western Cambodia, a man has been arrested for stabbing his ex-wife and causing serious injuries after she refused his attempts at reconciliation. Local police reported that the arrested man is Prak Ra, 47 years old. The victim, Ton Sopha-ni, 36 years old, sustained severe stab wounds to her abdomen from her ex-husband, Prak Ra. The incident occurred late on the night of September 10th, after Prak Ra's persistent attempts to mend their relationship were rejected. Sampov Loun District Police Chief Tim Vichey stated that while Prak Ra and Sopha-ni were not legally married, they had formed a cohabiting relationship during their time as refugees in a border area last year. However, they later separated. Recently, Prak Ra began pressuring Sopha-ni to reconcile, employing persuasion and threats. When Sopha-ni refused, Prak Ra became consumed by jealousy, accused his ex-wife of having a "new man," and then used a homemade knife to stab her. According to the victim's relatives, Prak Ra had repeatedly threatened to kill Sopha-ni after she refused to get back together with him. He persistently harassed the victim, ultimately resorting to violence. Following the stabbing, Prak Ra attempted to flee in the middle of the night.
