Cambodia Urges Thailand's In-Person Attendance at ASEAN Public Service Meeting, Pledges Non-Discriminatory Welcome

Cambodia has expressed its strong preference for Thailand to attend the ASEAN Public Service Cooperation Meeting (ACCSM) and the ASEAN+3 Public Service Cooperation Meeting (ACCSM+3) in person, rather than virtually. The Kingdom assures that Thailand will be welcomed warmly and without any discrimination, regardless of their chosen mode of participation. During a press conference on July 21, 2024, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Function, Ms. Chea Vijara, explained that as the ASEAN chair, Cambodia has extended invitations to all member states. Thailand, however, responded that they would participate online. Ms. Vijara stated that while Thailand's decision on its participation format is their sovereign right, she acknowledged that "there might be concerns or other issues related to border problems, but that is Thailand's decision." Nevertheless, she emphasized that Cambodian Minister of Public Function, H.E. Hun Many, has instructed that Thailand be encouraged to attend in person and will be welcomed without discrimination, just like any other guest. "Cambodia is very noble and does not discriminate against guests. As the host, we will welcome them with respect and warmth, which reflects the nobility of the Khmer people," she stated. The 23rd ACCSM meeting is scheduled to be held in Siem Reap province under the theme "Innovation for Better Service Delivery."
