Cambodia's Logistics Sector Focuses on Skill Enhancement Through SDF and CLA Workshop

The Skills Development Fund (SDF) and the Cambodia Logistics Association (CLA) jointly organized a consultative workshop on "Priority Skill Needs in Cambodia's Logistics Sector" on September 18, 2026, in Phnom Penh. Under the theme "Strengthening Skills, Productivity, and Competitiveness for Cambodia's Logistics Sector," the event gathered approximately 140 participants, including representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, CLA leadership, logistics enterprises, and training institutions. The workshop was designed to enhance the partnership between SDF and CLA in promoting the productivity and skills of the workforce through the dissemination of SDF's support mechanisms. Concurrently, it presented the results of training needs assessments and collected input to identify priority skill gaps for developing training programs that directly address the practical needs of logistics enterprises. In his opening remarks, H.E. Khee Sokkim, Executive Director of SDF, highlighted the critical importance of the logistics sector in supporting economic growth, facilitating trade, and enhancing export competitiveness. He emphasized that addressing the skills gap requires active participation from the private sector, following the formula of "joint planning, joint investment, and joint responsibility." He also commended the members of CLA for their commitment and strong interest in workforce skill development. As of September 2026, SDF has supported a total of over 101,500 trainees. According to independent evaluations, 89% of participating enterprises reported increased productivity, 83% have seen returns on investment in training, 71% of companies observed improvements in employee work quality, and 89% of trainees have achieved career advancement and better future employment opportunities. Moving forward, major logistics companies can directly request support from SDF, including financial assistance and networking with training partners. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can participate through coordinated efforts and project proposals organized by CLA to effectively receive SDF support tailored to their specific needs. H.E. Khee Sokkim further stated that the inputs and recommendations gathered from the workshop will form a robust foundation for advancing human capital development and sustainably enhancing the competitiveness of Cambodia's logistics sector.
