Bukidnon Electric Coop Faces Emergency Shutdown Due to Mindanao Grid Deficiency

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — The Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BUSECO) implemented an emergency power shutdown on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 2, to preserve system stability and prevent a widespread network collapse. The emergency action was triggered by a critical Mindanao grid deficiency that prompted a red alert, requiring BUSECO to execute a Voluntary Load Curtailment. BUSECO stated that the Mindanao grid's critical deficiency led to a red alert status, necessitating the cooperative's voluntary load curtailment. This situation temporarily impacted the daily lives and economic activities of local residents. Power supply in the Philippines can often be affected by various factors, including aging infrastructure, natural disasters, and unstable fuel supplies. In the Mindanao region, in particular, increased power demand due to economic development coupled with stagnant supply capacity has been a recurring issue.
