Indonesia is launching a new initiative to accelerate economic recovery for survivors of a disaster in Sumatra. The Task Force for Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) Post-Disaster is collaborating with PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to develop a business financing and empowerment model for disaster survivors in Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This program aims to speed up the economic recovery process. PNM has expressed its commitment to supporting the economic recovery of disaster-affected communities by providing access to financing and business empowerment programs. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the economic independence of the community and strengthen socio-economic resilience in disaster-affected areas. Minister of Home Affairs and Head of Satgas PRR, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, received a report from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) team regarding various steps that have been taken. During the assistance provided by BNPB, PNM, the Agam Regency Government, BPBD, and related agencies, various stages of program implementation were discussed, including the preparation of a business financing scheme based on business clusters, verification of 5,843 customers (including 1,820 in Agam Regency), and data matching for aid recipients. The meeting also discussed the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BNPB and PT PNM, as well as the cooperation agreement that will serve as the basis for program implementation. The BNPB team, along with PNM, also visited temporary shelters (huntara) in Palembayan and Tanjung Raya sub-districts to socialize the business financing and empowerment program. This aims to provide the community with broader access to capital and assistance in developing their businesses. Furthermore, the team directly inspected several businesses owned by the community to identify local economic development potential. The results of this identification will form the basis for developing a financing scheme tailored to the characteristics of the businesses, ensuring that the assistance provided supports business sustainability. Moving forward, Satgas PRR through BNPB will continue to oversee the preparation of cooperation mechanisms with PNM and the Agam Regency Government to ensure the program can be implemented promptly. The results of this pilot project will be evaluated as a basis for developing similar models in other disaster-affected regions.
