Cambodia Emphasizes 'Long-Term Relations' with Myanmar, Strengthens Ties in Meeting with Military Leader

During a state banquet on September 11, 2026, in honor of the state visit of Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, stated that Cambodia places high importance on its long-term relations with Myanmar. Samdech Techo Hun Sen, on behalf of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and as the Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, extended a warm welcome to President Min Aung Hlaing and his distinguished delegation for their state visit to Cambodia. He expressed his delight in having the honor of hosting the banquet on this auspicious occasion. Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated President Min Aung Hlaing on his election as President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He expressed his firm belief that under the President's visionary leadership, Myanmar will achieve all the priority tasks set forth by his government. "Your Excellency President's state visit is a testament to the enduring friendship between our two nations, further strengthening our bonds of amity and promoting our close partnership. This visit has provided us both with an opportunity to discuss and exchange views in-depth on bilateral, regional, and international cooperation, leading to our agreement to enhance our efforts towards achieving fruitful benefits for the peoples of our two countries," Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued. "Cambodia attaches great importance to its long-term relations with Myanmar. We have maintained frequent communication and close connectivity, and I am pleased to note that Cambodia and Myanmar share warm traditional friendship and strong solidarity. In 2025, we jointly commemorated the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries," Samdech Techo Hun Sen added. Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his utmost joy and high appreciation for the progress of fruitful multi-sectoral cooperation between our two countries in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, information, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as within regional and international frameworks. Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his confidence that through the joint efforts of our two countries, particularly by upholding the spirit of sincere solidarity and mutual respect within the ASEAN Community and on the international stage, and by peacefully preserving our common ideals and interests, the strong partnership and long-standing relations between Cambodia and Myanmar will continue to flourish uninterrupted. Samdech Techo Hun Sen wished President Min Aung Hlaing and his high-level delegation good health and success in fulfilling their noble mission on the soil of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
