Cambodian Agri-Tech Firm konektAgri Secures International Investment, Boosting Startup Ecosystem

Global innovation platform Plug and Play has invested in konektAgri, a Cambodian agricultural technology (agri-tech) startup. This marks the second instance of a Cambodian startup securing international investment through the "Innovate Cambodia Accelerator Programme" supported by the company, following Bamnang. The investment, announced on June 19, underscores the programme's success in helping Cambodian startups attract international funding. It is also expected to contribute to the growth of the Kingdom's digital startup ecosystem. According to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, konektAgri has developed agriKredit™, an advanced credit assessment and risk management platform specifically for the agricultural sector. This platform integrates financial and agricultural data, including satellite imagery, weather information, farmland location data, and an electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification system, to enable financial institutions to make more accurate and efficient lending decisions. Nithyasri Manikandan, Senior Investment Manager at Plug and Play, stated that konektAgri is building the data infrastructure and risk assessment capabilities necessary to meet the evolving demands of agricultural finance in emerging markets. This development is seen as part of the Cambodian government's strategy to attract domestic and international investment, as it focuses on fostering digital economic development and innovation. Agriculture, in particular, is a cornerstone of the Cambodian economy, and improving productivity and financial access through technology is crucial for the economic development of rural areas.
