Coastal Vietnam on Alert as Typhoon Noul Approaches East Sea

Coastal areas of Vietnam are on high alert as Tropical Depression No. 1 has intensified into Typhoon Noul, internationally named Maysak, and is approaching the East Sea. According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the tropical depression strengthened into a typhoon on the morning of July 3. Typhoon No. 1 is expected to enter the Gulf of Tonkin late on July 3 and make landfall between Quang Ninh province and China's Guangxi region on July 4. In response, radar systems are being used to track ships and provide navigation support to ensure vessels and fishing boats can reach shelter safely. Vietnam is a country frequently affected by typhoons and tropical depressions throughout the year, with its northern coastal regions having experienced severe damage in the past. Under its one-party system, the Vietnamese government prioritizes disaster prevention and mitigation as a national imperative, requiring swift and accurate responses to protect the lives and property of its citizens. The approach of this typhoon could impact coastal infrastructure and the fishing industry, which are vital to Vietnam's economic growth. Particularly in relation to China, concerns over maritime rights and fishing activities in the East Sea are perennial.
