Singaporean Man Suspected of Killing Girlfriend in Bali, Victim's Body Found Hidden by Dolls

A Singaporean national, identified by the initial MZ (26), has been arrested in Denpasar, Bali, for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death. The arrest took place on Wednesday night, July 15, 2026, around 10:00 PM WITA. The police received a report about the discovery of the body of a woman, identified as AS (26), at a boarding house on Jalan Mekar II, Pedungan Village, South Denpasar District, Denpasar City, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, around 7:00 PM WITA. "The perpetrator was apprehended on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai," said the Head of Denpasar Police, Kombes Pol Leonardo D Simatupang, on Thursday, July 16. The perpetrator was arrested by a joint team from the Bali Regional Police's Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, Denpasar Resort Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, and South Denpasar Police's Criminal Investigation Unit after an investigation identified the suspect's characteristics. "So, approximately three hours later, the perpetrator was secured. The victim was a woman from Tegal, Central Java," he added. The victim was the perpetrator's girlfriend. Based on preliminary interrogation, the motive for the fatal assault was emotional distress related to their romantic relationship. "The preliminary motive from the interrogation is emotional distress due to the romantic relationship," he stated. The perpetrator reportedly came to Bali for a holiday but had overstayed for a year, starting in 2025. "The individual had been in a romantic relationship for a year. He committed the assault by strangling the victim for approximately 15 minutes and intended to flee towards Sanur," he explained. The victim's body was first discovered by her sister, identified as RA. RA visited the boarding house to check on her sister's condition as she had been unable to contact her. Upon arriving at the location and attempting to open the gate, RA noticed a foul odor. Entering the room, the smell intensified. RA then saw parts of the victim's hair and body covered by dolls. A short while later, the perpetrator emerged from the adjacent room. When RA asked about her sister's whereabouts, the perpetrator did not respond. Becoming suspicious, RA struck the perpetrator with a helmet she was carrying. The perpetrator then fled on a motorcycle. RA mentioned that she and the victim both worked at a billiard hall on Jalan Nakula, Kuta, and she last met the victim about a week prior. RA was aware that the victim had previously argued twice with her boyfriend due to his infidelity. Meanwhile, another witness, identified as DP, stated that she had only been in a relationship with the perpetrator for three days. They met at DP's workplace, a billiard hall on Jalan Pura Demak, West Denpasar District. DP admitted that the perpetrator had invited her to stay at the boarding house room on Saturday, July 11, 2026, around 11:00 PM WITA. At that time, she smelled an unpleasant odor from inside the room but did not know its source. A few days later, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, DP asked the perpetrator about the smell. However, the perpetrator became angry, hit the wall, and said, "Why are you asking?" According to the boarding house manager, identified as MA, the victim AS had been living at the location since March 2025 with the perpetrator. When found, the victim's body was lying supine on the room floor, covered by stuffed dolls and a neatly folded carpet. The body showed signs of swelling and decomposition, emitting a strong odor, with the epidermis peeling off. Police stated that no open wounds were found due to the advanced state of decomposition. The body was subsequently evacuated to RSUP Prof. Ngoerah Sanglah Denpasar by an ambulance from the Denpasar City BPBD.
