Cambodia Inaugurates Cancer Hospital, Boosting Public Health Access

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia attended the official inauguration ceremony of the "Samdech Techo Hun Sen Royal Hospital" (Luang Mae Hospital) in Phnom Penh on the morning of September 16, 2026. This hospital is a specialized medical facility dedicated to cancer treatment, established through direct financial support from the government and based on the long-term vision of former Prime Minister and current Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen. Equipped with state-of-the-art international standard facilities, it aims to further enhance public health services for the nation's citizens. Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Ministry of Health and all involved parties, praising the successful completion of the hospital as a high-quality, specialized cancer treatment center. He emphasized that the establishment of this hospital fulfills the government's commitment to providing healthcare services to the people, reducing poverty, and alleviating the economic burden caused by chronic diseases like cancer. According to a report from the Minister of Health, the cost of cancer treatment abroad can reach approximately 80,000 US dollars per person. In contrast, this hospital significantly reduces the financial burden on citizens, with consultation fees starting from 30 US dollars, making advanced treatment accessible to a wider population. The Prime Minister also noted that while the hospital was initially planned to offer services primarily for women, it transformed into a life-saving facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, it continues its noble mission of providing ongoing treatment and consultation services to the Cambodian people. He added that all healthcare units, including national hospitals, provincial hospitals, district referral hospitals, and health centers, play a crucial role in supporting the health of the population, contributing to economic activity, and fostering future prosperity. Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that the inauguration of this achievement is a realization of the policies set forth by former Prime Minister Hun Sen after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the current government continuing and completing this mission. He underscored that the contributions of the Ministry of Health, the hospital staff, and all medical personnel represent a service to the nation and its people, celebrating the progress made in Cambodia's healthcare sector.
