Myanmar, Russia, 19 Cities Sign Memorandum on Transport Cooperation

It has been learned from the Yangon City Development Committee that a memorandum on transport cooperation was signed on August 4 between 19 international cities, including Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon, and Moscow, Russia. The signing of the memorandum took place at the opening ceremony of the 5th International Transport Summit 2026, held in Moscow, Russian Federation on August 4. According to sources, the memorandum was signed by Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council U Kan Myint Than, representing Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar; Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee (Mayor) U Myo Myint Aung, representing Yangon Region; and Mr. Maxim Likhachev, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and Head of the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of the Moscow Government, representing Moscow, Russian Federation. It was also learned that memorandums on transport cooperation were signed between Moscow and cities such as Visakhapatnam, India; Accra, Ghana; Ankara, Turkey; Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Goiânia, Monte Carlo, and Porto Alegre, Brazil; Beirut, Lebanon; Belgrade, Serbia; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Managua, Nicaragua; Montevideo, Uruguay; Quito, Ecuador; and Vladivostok, Russian Federation. The summit is being held with the aim of fostering cooperation strategies to share advanced expertise in modernizing transport systems and digital technology innovation among partner cities, to improve the urban transport sector, and to enhance the quality of life. The 5th International Transport Summit is being held for five days from August 2 to August 6.
