CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) was rescued after being found entangled in a fishing net and later released in coastal waters off Dinapigue, Isabela, on Tuesday. Sept. 8. The turtle measured approximately 45 inches in length and 42 inches in width. It was accidentally caught in the fishing net of Marshall Soliven, 54, a resident and fisherman from Purok 1 in Barangay Dibulo, according to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Sub-Office there. READ: Samar fisherman turns over two green sea turtles caught on net Soliven immediately sought assistance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other concerned agencies with expertise in handling traumatized marine animals. “The rescue and careful handling of the turtle were carried out with the assistance of personnel from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Philippine National Police–Maritime Group, and the Philippine Coast Guard,” said Racquel Caldez, Isabela information officer of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office. /mcm
