Jakarta's Annual Inflation Hits 2.50% in July 2026, Driven by Transport and Gold

Jakarta recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.50 percent in July 2026, with a monthly deflation of 0.15 percent, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta Province. The annual price increase was driven by almost all spending groups, with transportation and personal care sectors showing the most significant rises. Kadarmanto, Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, stated that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased from 107.40 in July 2025 to 110.09 in July 2026, reflecting the 2.50 percent year-on-year inflation. The year-to-date inflation was recorded at 1.49 percent. The transportation expenditure group was the largest contributor to annual inflation, with a 5.30 percent price increase. The personal care and other services group followed at 8.39 percent, and the food, beverage, and restaurant provider group at 2.31 percent. Jewelry gold was identified as a key contributor to Jakarta's inflation in July 2026. Price hikes in gasoline, air transportation, rice, cooking oil, broiler chicken meat, and education costs also put pressure on inflation. Other commodities contributing to the price increase included beef, fried chicken, domestic helper wages, rice with side dishes, online two-wheeled vehicle fares, university/academy tuition fees, and household fuel. Despite the annual inflation, some food items saw price decreases, including red onions, broiler eggs, tomatoes, sweet peas, garlic, onions, red peppers, and potatoes, which helped temper the overall inflation rate. For the monthly deflation, dominant commodities contributing to the decrease were gold jewelry, air transportation, red chili, red onions, sweet peas, broiler eggs, broiler meat, and online two-wheeled vehicle tariffs.
