Tropical Storm Maymay Intensifies, Signal No. 2 Hoisted in Northern Luzon

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remained hoisted in six areas of Northern Luzon as Tropical Storm Maymay (international name: Kujira) slightly intensified on Wednesday afternoon, the state weather bureau said. In its 2 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Maymay now has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 90 kph. This is a slight intensification from its 65 kph maximum sustained winds recorded at 11 p.m. Tuesday. The tropical storm was located 365 kilometers east of Dilasag, Isabela, moving west northwest. It is forecast to continue moving west northwest and is expected to make landfall in the northern Luzon coast by Thursday afternoon. Areas under TCWS No. 2 include Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, and Abra. Residents in these areas are advised to be vigilant against strong winds and the potential for heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding and landslides.
