Thailand Signals Imminent Fuel Price Reduction to Ease Burden on Consumers and Businesses

Motorists in Thailand could soon see lower fuel prices after the Ministry of Energy ordered an urgent review of measures to adjust domestic pump prices following a decline in global crude oil costs. Energy Minister Akanat Promphan said he had received instructions from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to accelerate measures to reduce retail fuel prices and ensure that domestic prices better reflect falling costs. The minister called an urgent meeting of the Energy Policy Administration Committee (EPAC) and the Oil Fuel Fund Management Committee on July 7 to discuss ways to implement a price reduction as quickly as possible. Officials will consider measures to ensure consumers benefit from lower energy costs without unnecessary delays. The review will focus on whether fuel prices can be adjusted based on reduced crude oil costs rather than waiting for finished fuel price references from the Singapore market. The move comes as global crude oil prices have declined, prompting the government to seek faster ways to pass on the reduction to Thai consumers.
