San Roque Dam to Discharge Water, Ease Reservoir Pressure

CALASIAO, Pangasinan – The San Roque Multi-Purpose Dam will begin releasing water from its reservoir at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, the National Power Corporation (Napocor) announced on Tuesday. The dam's water elevation has reached a point where pressure needs to be eased, prompting the discharge of an estimated 300 cubic meters per second into the Agno River. This water release could potentially increase flood risks, particularly for communities downstream. Napocor stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary actions as needed. The San Roque Dam plays a crucial role in the Philippines' infrastructure, contributing to power generation, irrigation, and flood control. However, managing the dam has consistently been a challenge due to the frequency of typhoons and heavy rainfall. While this discharge is a precautionary measure to ensure the dam's safety, close coordination with local communities and adequate communication with affected residents are essential.
