Vietnam Boosts Global Reach for Farm Produce via Online Market
Vietnam is set to launch an online agricultural wholesale market by September 2026 to expand trade links with Singapore. The initiative aims to help SMEs and cooperatives go global, integrating e-commerce into its digital economy development strategy.
Vietnam is accelerating efforts to expand access for its agricultural products to international markets. Notably, an online agricultural wholesale market aimed at strengthening trade links with Singapore is slated to become operational by September 2026. This platform will offer flexible wholesale purchasing options between Vietnamese producers and buyers in Singapore. This initiative is part of Da Nang City's e-commerce development strategy, which designates e-commerce as a crucial component of the digital economy for the 2026-2030 period. The city is transitioning from supporting individual online activities to developing an integrated ecosystem encompassing products, branding, platforms, payments, logistics, legal affairs, and market information. This is expected to boost online sales for Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives, particularly for products certified under the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) program. The Vietnamese government is also promoting programs to link agricultural, forestry, and fisheries cooperatives, enterprises, and science-technology organizations, fostering concentrated raw material production areas and enhancing value chain production. This aims not only to strengthen the domestic production base but also to improve competitiveness in international markets. Concurrently, Vietnam's economic growth is supported by investments in infrastructure and innovation. For instance, Hai Phong City is expected to serve as a strategic driver in establishing its position as a maritime nation, while power grid development is underway on Phu Quoc Island. Ho Chi Minh City continues to implement proactive economic measures, targeting GRDP growth of over 11.07% in the third quarter of 2026. These efforts align with the global recognition that Vietnam's shift from a traditional growth model to one reliant on technology and innovation is imperative. The expansion of online markets holds the potential to integrate Vietnamese agricultural products into international supply chains, becoming a new driving force for economic growth.
