Cambodia's Kandal Province Boosts Local Economy with 'Khmer Products Market'

The 'Khmer Products Market' (weekend market) held in Cambodia's Kandal Province is contributing to the revitalization of the local economy by providing a platform for local farmers to sell their high-quality and safe agricultural products. Mr. Om Bunthoeun, Director of the Kandal Provincial Department of Commerce, emphasized that products purchased at this market have a clear source from local farmers and their quality and safety are guaranteed. On September 12, 2026, the Director, along with a mobile food inspection unit from the General Directorate of Consumer Protection, Competition and Fraud Repression (CCF), inspected the quality of vegetables and other food items at the weekend market held in a plaza along the river in Ta Khmau city. The market provides an opportunity for local farmers to sell their produce, and in addition to vegetables, many 'Khmer-made products' are also available. The market operates every Saturday and Sunday morning and currently has 16 stalls. This significantly supports the sale of agricultural products produced in the region. The weekend market receives support not only from residents of Ta Khmau city and Kandal Province but also from many consumers from the capital, Phnom Penh. The Department of Commerce not only manages the quality and safety of vegetables provided to consumers but also ensures reasonable pricing that corresponds to the farmers' production costs. Farmers often use greenhouse cultivation and operate under the supervision of projects and the Provincial Department of Commerce. Market demand is increasing, requiring expansion of production and assurance of quality and safety. The Director urged citizens to support local farmers by purchasing agricultural products produced locally, especially in Kandal Province, stating that the products offered have sufficient quality and safety for consumers' use.
