Vietnamese President Attends UNGA, Meets US Senator in New York

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam delivered a policy speech at the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) in New York on September 22 morning (local time). This was part of his trip to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) and conduct bilateral activities in the US. Regarding the Vietnam–US relationship, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the value of a sense of responsibility has become increasingly evident. To achieve the status of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership today, the two countries have to overcome losses, differences, and a lack of trust. General Secretary and President Lam affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam highly value and stand ready to engage in close, comprehensive, and extensive cooperation with Mongolia across all sectors in line with the Vietnam-Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership framework, with a particular focus on economy, trade, investment, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Vietnam proposed that each country establish a specialised coordination task force to verify, investigate and handle complex transnational scam rings and cases, ensuring the rapid and effective exchange of information and coordination of investigations. The Platform, adopted by the 7th National Party Congress in 1991, holds particular importance in the development of the Party’s theoretical thinking. The 40-year review (1991-2031) aims to clarify the its value and vitality, as well as issues facing Vietnam’s development model in the new context.
