Israeli Man Arrested in Chiang Mai with 200 Packs of Untaxed Cigarettes
An Israeli national was arrested in Chiang Mai after being found with 200 packs of untaxed foreign cigarettes at his condominium, raising suspicions of smuggling and illegal sales.
CHIANG MAI — 10 September 2026, Excise Department officers and police arrested a 41-year-old Israeli man at a condominium in Chiang Mai on Wednesday after finding 200 packs of allegedly untaxed foreign cigarettes. Officials said the man, identified only as Mr A, was arrested at a condominium in Nong Hoi subdistrict, Muang district, at about 14:30. Officers from the Excise Department’s Regional Office 5 and Mae Ping Police Station seized 20 cartons containing 200 packs of cigarettes. The arrest followed a tip-off that a foreign national had ordered untaxed cigarettes for delivery through a private courier service, officials said. Condominium staff were asked to notify the recipient when the parcel arrived, after which officers moved in to make the arrest. The man allegedly admitted ordering the cigarettes, telling officers they were for his own use.
