Phu Quoc Island Submerged by Heavy Rains, Disrupting Traffic

Multiple main roads on Phu Quoc Island, a popular resort destination in southern Vietnam, were submerged up to half a meter deep following heavy rains on the afternoon of July 24th, causing significant disruptions to traffic. According to Yen Mai, who works on the island, the rain began around 3 PM, leading to severe flooding on streets such as Nguyen Trung Truc, Hung Vuong, Cach Mang Thang Tam, and Tran Phu, as well as in the Suoi Lon area. "It's the same every year; just a few hours of heavy rain and Phu Quoc floods. The water is still rising while the rain hasn't stopped," she said. The Standing Office of the Phu Quoc Island Civil Defense Command reported that heavy rainfall in the Duong Dong and An Thoi areas caused localized flooding on several roads. As of the afternoon, no human casualties were reported, and the water had begun to recede. Phu Quoc authorities have directed relevant agencies to survey and clear waterways and expedite drainage to mitigate flooding during heavy rainfall. According to the An Giang Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, due to the influence of Typhoon Noul's periphery, Phu Quoc experienced concentrated heavy rainfall in the afternoon and evening.
